To fund the services it provides, the United States government derives revenue from individuals and businesses by taxing income, purchases, and property, in addition to various taxes paid on specific goods or activities. Yet, critics of the current tax code say it falls short of key goals: fairness, economic growth, and transparency. Recent changes have attempted to address these concerns, but there is still work to be done.
